The Iowa Hawkeyes will take on U-conn Thursday night in a 9:15 Iowa time tip off in Phoenix in the semifinal round of the NCAA west regional. TheHawks advanced to the sweet 16 with an 82-72 win over Arkansas. Hawkeye basketball fans may have trouble finding flights from Iowa to Arizona to see the University of Iowa play in the “Sweet 16” Thursday. Des Moines travel agent Terry Beech says the first problem is that vacationing college students have already snagged up most of the airplane seats. The carrier America West does offer direct flights from Des Moines to Phoenix, which is hosting the next rounds of the -C-double-A tournament, but Beech says those seats are all gone. Say you get tickets to Phoenix. Thenext complication is — when to return — Friday or Sunday. If Iowa wins Thursday, they’ll play again Saturday in Phoenix. Beech says it’s a toughdecision but says many people are optimistic the Hawks will advance. She suggests fans consider flying the new lowfare carrier AccessAir from DesMoines to Los Angeles and then driving to Phoenix. Then, the hurdles will be finding hotel rooms and tickets for the game.
