The boys state high school basketball tournament opened with a rated showdown in class 2A. Iowa Falls senior Nick Collison showed why he is ahigh school All-American. Collison scored 24 of his game high 34-points in the second half as the top ranked Cadets rallied for a 65-51 victory overthird rated Unity Christian of Orange City in a class 2A quarterfinal round game. Also in 2A, Brock Sabers hit two free throws with two secondsremaining as Jesup erased a 14-point second half defict to edge second ranked Audubon 56-54.In class 1A, Preston outscored Southeast Warren 20-9 in the third quarter to take command in a 72-56 win. Preston led by just two at the half and coach Dan Beck says the defense picked up in the third quarter. Top ranked Des Moines Christian jumped out to a 14-point lead at the end ofone enroute to an 82-70 victory over seventh ranked SCMT Sheffield. Steve Myers led Christian with 20-points, including four three-pointers.
