Legislators plan to launch a full-scale study of municipal sewage lagoons to see if they’re leaking. A recently-completed Iowa State University study of lagoons which store -livestock- waste found a majority leaked.Representative Sandra Greiner, a republican from Keota, says legislators plan to order Department of Natural Resources officials to check city sewage systems for leaks. Farmers like Greiner have long contended manure spills are not as dangerous as spills from city sewage lagoons.
