Bill seeks to end phone slamming and cramming

March 17, 1999 By admin

A bill which supporters say will end “slamming and cramming” from phone companies has cleared the Iowa House this morning. Representative ScottRaecker, a republican from Urbandale, says it’s important consumer protection.Raecker says today, Iowans must go to the Federal CommunicationsCommission for help if they’ve had a company change their telephone services without their consent. The bill establishes state fines for “slamming and cramming” phone service on un-suspecting Iowans. Raecker says two dozenstates already have similar laws. The Senate plans to take up the bill soon and send it to the Governor for his approval.
