A few dozen kids wearing their bike helmets crowded into the statehouse today to join with their parents’ call for a bill which would requirehelmet-wearing for kids age 14 and under. The kids told the Senators why they wear helmets. Dave Alexander, the medical director of Blank Children’s Hospital in Des Moines, was among those urging the Senate to debate the bill. Alexander says research shows helmets are important safety devices. The Senate Transportation Committee last week approved the manditory helmet bill. It awaits action in the full Senate.
