Assumption and Sioux City West win titles

March 22, 1999 By admin

Davenport Assumption and Sioux City West won titles as the boys state basketball tournament wrapped up on Saturday. Assumption held off a second half rally by Keokuk for a 70-61 victory in the 3A title game. Assumption’s Randy Norton played on championship teams at Iowa City Regina back in the 1970’s. This is his first title as coach. Senior guard Craig Lewis led Keokuk with 19-points. Sioux City West won the 4A crown with a 65-57 win over West Des Moines Valley. Valley coach Bill Harris says West made the key plays down thestretch. West coach Jim Hinrich says after coming up short at the tournament the last three years, they are thrilled with the championship.
