Democrats continue pushing for state funding of school repairs

Democrats say republicans will fail Iowa’s school children if they continueto resist state financing for school building repairs. Senate DemocratLeader Mike Gronstal of Council Bluffs supports the Governor’s plan to use150-million dollars in state taxes for school infrastructure projects.Republican legislators say it’s up to school boards and local residents toensure their school buildings are up to snuff. Gronstal says that attitudemay come back to haunt Republicans.Forty states provide some level of state investment in public schoolbuilding construction and renovation.
