Conference aims to make businesses family friendly

April 7, 1999 By admin

The goal of a conference in Ames today is to make businesses across Iowamore successful by making them more family friendly. Organizers of themeeting at Iowa State University say families aren’t forgotten in the modernworkplace, but they’re not getting the emphasis they deserve.Mary Jo Glanville is a spokeswoman for the I-S-U College of Family andConsumer Services. She says there are simple things businesses could do tomake themselves more receptive to employees who have families, which can, inturn, help the businesses themselves.Glanville says employees who have troubles or obligations at home are notgoing to focus on their work — she says some businesses need to learn a fewthings about how to handle family situations, such as being understandingabout the needs of families. The conference targets small business owners and the people who createemployee policies in larger companies. The meeting runs today only startingat 9 a-m. Walk-in registration is permitted at the I-S-U Memorial Union.
