U-S Ag official calls for more safety nets for farmers

The chairman of the U-S House Ag Committee says it’s time to fix a “safetynet” for farmers. Texas Congressman Larry Combest envisions a completeover-haul of the federal crop insurance program.Combest expects to complete work on the project by September.Critics of the so-called “Freedom to Farm” Act say it should be re-writtento ensure a guaranteed price for farmers’ commodities. Combest disagreesand says his proposal is more likely to become law.Combest made his remarks Friday at a news conference in Des Moines.
