IBP, Excel to test irradiated hamburger

Meatpackers I-B-P Incorporated and Excel Corporation plan to test marketirradiated ground beef. I-B-P spokesman Gary Mickelsen says aSan Diego company will build a beef pastuerization system at the company’sCloverleaf cold storage facility in Sioux City.Mickelsen says this test will determine if they continue producingirradiated meat.Mickelson says it will be the first system designed specifically toirradiate ground beef. The U-S-D-A just recently gave approval for usingirradiation on meat.
