April 19, 1999 By admin

While giving blood is considered the “gift of life,” officials at the IowaDonor Network say donating an organ at the time of death gives someone elsea second chance at life. This is Organ & Tissue Donor Awareness Week, andIowans are urged to make the decision to help others.David Huey is spokesman for the Iowa Donor Network. Tree plantings arescheduled by the Network today in Davenport, DeWitt, Fort Dodge and Dubuque.Huey says the saplings represent life & are being dedicated to those who’vedonated organs and tissue.Huey says even though all Iowa drivers have a “YES” or “NO” indicated ontheir licenses, the Iowa D-O-T keeps no records on the number of donors. Some 65-thousand Americans are now on lists waiting for organs to bedonated.
