The City of Ames won’t be seeing a hike in its hotel/motel tax as votersrejected the proposal yesterday by 73-to-27 percent. The tax increasewould’ve paid for renovations to Iowa State University’s Hilton Coliseum.I-S-U Vice President Murray Blackwelder says the Coliseum will still beimproved, but won’t now get the additional seats.Ames City Councilman Herman Quirmbach was against the tax hike, saying hedidn’t believe more seats were needed to get more concerts.
