House elects new speaker

A republican from Council Bluffs has been elected Speaker of the Iowa Houseof Representatives. Legislators took nearly half-an-hour off from their work on bills to installBrent Siegrist as Speaker — replacing Ron Corbett who’sleaving the legislature to become president of the Cedar Rapids Chamber ofCommerce. Representative Russ Eddie of Storm Lake nominatedSiegrist for his new post.Siegrist’s wife, young son and his parents were on hand for the ceremony.Siegrist pledged to promote bipartisan cooperation.Representative Steve Sukup, a republican from Dougherty, waselected Speaker Pro-tempore — sort of the House parliamentarian.
