Hearing discusses high airline fares

A hearing over airline competition is bringing four of Iowa’s sevenCongressional representatives to Des Moines this morning. One of thescheduled witnesses, Iowa Senator Tom Harkin, says he wants to see airport”slots” eliminated to allow more flights to take off and land.Officials with the two-month-old Des Moines-based AccessAir claim otherairlines are unfairly cutting prices to try drive them out of business.C-E-O Roger Ferguson is on the list of witnesses for the 9:45 a-m hearing,along with Senator Chuck Grassley and Congressmen Greg Ganske and LeonardBoswell. Also on the list, city officials from Dubuque, Cedar Rapids, DesMoines & Sioux City.
