Federal disaster declaration expanded

President Clinton has extended the federal disaster declaration for Iowa tonow include public buildings, bridges and other infrastructure. Thedeclaration covers Black Hawk, Bremer, Buchanan, Clayton, Delaware, Dubuque,Fayette, Harrison, Jones and Linn Counties. Iowa Emergency ManagementDivision State Coordinator, Jerry Ostendorf, says this will help cities andcounties rebuild. Ostendorf says a team of state, federal and localofficials will tour the areas and do damage assessments to qualify for thefederal funds.The president earlier approved federal assistance for individuals in the tencounties. Ostendorf says just over 15-hundred people have applied for thathelp.Governor Vilsack today added Clinton county to the state disaster list. Thatdesignation allows the county to receive state help in cleaning up debrisfrom flooding.
