Cities win historical preservation grants

Nearly four dozen ceremonies are scheduled across Iowa today to announcethe winners in a grant program for acts of historic preservation. Officalssay 451-thousand dollars is being awarded to 46 separate projects — andannouncements are being made in each location.Roger Munns is spokesman for the State Historical Society of Iowa. He saysit’s vital that we honor and protect our past for future generations.The projects being funded range from scrapbook preservation in AllamakeeCounty to restoring a Civil War-era flag in Black Hawk County. Munns givesanother example of today’s winners.The smallest award is for 12-hundred dollars to the Harrison County HistoricPreservation Commission for developing a brochure. The largest grant is tothe Dubuque County Historical Society for 25-thousand dollars to process,catalog and house the Boat & Boat Building Collection.
