Harkin supports action against Yugoslav president

One of Iowa’s elected leaders who was in Kosovo two weeks ago SUPPORTStoday’s actions by the United Nations to zero in on Yugoslavia’s president.The U-N tribunal is indicting Slovodan Milosevic on war crimes charges, whichSenator Tom Harkin applauds.Harkin says Melosevic “deserves” the charge for atrocities committed in theBalkan War. Harkin says the charges may make it more difficult to deal withthe Yugoslav leader, as the U-S wouldn’t want to sit down with an indictedwar criminal.Prosecutors at the U-N court say Milosevic is among four Yugoslav officialsto be indicted for murder and other crimes. A warrant’s been issued for hisarrest. Harkin was in Kosovo May 14-16 as part of a 12-member Senatedelegation to gather information and bring humanitarian aid to refugees.
