Wind farm dedicated

A electricity-generating wind farm was dedicated by seven municipalutilities Thursday in Algona. Construction began last August on the2-point-8 million dollar project. Why Algona? Roger Kueter, vice chairman ofthe Cedar Falls Utility Board of Trustees, explains.The three wind turbines went on-line in November and are the largestcommercial turbines made in the U-S. Nick Scholer (SHOW’-ler) is generalmanager of the Algona Municipal Utilities. He says in the first four months,the turbines generated enough power for more than 800 homes.Roger Kueter says the wind farm’s mission is to reduce the air pollutionassociated with the burning of fossil fuels to generate electricity, whilesharing in a renewable energy source.The wind project is owned by municipal utilities in Algona, Cedar Falls,Ellsworth, Fonda, Estherville, Westfield and Montezuma.
