Searchers look for drowning victim in Three Mile Lake

An apparent drowning in Three Mile Lake near Afton in Union County is thefirst death at the three-year-old lake. Search efforts will resume today for 50-year-old Don Newton of Kellerton whois believed to have drowned Sunday afternoon. Union County Sheriff JohnCoulter says Newton was among four people on a boat when a ski blewoverboard. Coulter tried to recover it, but was fully clothed with hiswork boots on. The sheriff says alcohol consumption, plus the weight of theclothing and boots, played a part in the drowning. Newton was not wearing alife jacket. High winds approaching 35 miles per hour hampered recoveryefforts yesterday.
