Troopers converge on Des Moines for conference

Criminals beware — this isn’t a good week to do any lawbreaking in the DesMoines area. More than 100 state troopers from across the U-S are here for aweeklong national law enforcement conference. Iowa is hosting the 36thannual Uniformed Safety Education Officers WorkshopIowa State Patrol Lieutenant Dallas Scott is co-organizing the event andsays there are troopers here from 20 states and one foreign country.Speakers during the week will include Governor Vilsack, former GovernorRobert Ray and Secretary of State Chet Culver. Scott says the officers willbe taking part in a variety of workshops.The workshops will cover a range of topics, including: traffic safety, seatbelts, drunk driving, road rage and methamphetamines.
