June 10, 1999 By admin

The heat is on in Iowa as temperatures are starting to hit the 90’s on aregular basis. With the high temps, you may have heard weather forecasters talking about the “heat index.” National Weather Service meteorologist AndyKula says the heat index is sort of the summertime version of wind chill. It factors in the humidity along with the temperature.Kula says the amount of wind can also impact the heat index. Kula sayseveryone has a different heat tolerance, but he says you should be aware ofthe heat index, especially when it gets into the 90’s.He says when the heat index is high, you should take steps to keep yourselfcool and avoid working in the hottest parts of the day.
