Men reluctant to see the doctor

June 16, 1999 By admin

Many women tease men about NOT stopping to ask directions — but somestubborn men also don’t go to the doctor, which is not a joking subject. AUniversity of Iowa Health Care physician is trying to get the word out thatmen NEED to have checkups, at least every few years.Dr. Dan Fick, a U-of-I professor of family medicine, says a national studyfinds only four of 11 adults who go to the doctor are men. He adds, men, onaverage, usually die seven years earlier than women. Dr. Fick says men needto change their ways and change their lives for the better.Fick says it usually takes a traumatic event or unendurable pain for somemen to go and see a physician. This is National Men’s Health Week as Father’s Day is Sunday.
