Storm Lake prepares for Y2K bug

As Iowa’s big cities prepare for whatever the Y-2-K computer bug may bringon New Year’s Day, one smaller town is preparing too. Storm Lake Police Chief Mark Prosser says the town wants to be prepared forthe much-debated glitch, which may or may not have any effect on anything.He says they’re taking a two-pronged approach to Y-2-K.Storm Lake city workers are checking equipment that CAN be checked for signsit’ll be effected by the change to the year two-thosand. A plan is alsobeing prepared for any trouble — which Chief Prosser says includes allsquad cars conking out. He says all city vehicles will be left running lateon December 31st in case they have faulty computer chips inside.Chief Prosser says the plan, at least on paper, includes patrolling onbicycles & horses.
