Pasta plant now cooking in Ames

The world’s largest pasta maker officially opened its plant in AmesWednesday. Barilla will manufacture 54-thousand boxes of pasta an hour atthe plant on the east edge of the city along Interstate 35. Ames Mayor TedTedesco says the plant makes the city the pasta capital of North America.Barilla is headquartered in Parma, Italy. Company president Guido Barillasays the plant will help the company keep up with demand for its pasta inthe U-S. The fully automated plant employs 110 people and will run aroundthe clock. The plant will produce 200 million pounds of pasta a year.
