Davenport man denied new murder trial

A Scott County judge is turning down a Davenport man’s request for a newmurder trial. Stanley Liggins has been convicted twice of murdering 9-year-old JenniferLouis of Rock Island, Illinois in 1990. Her body was found badly burnednear a Davenport elementary school. Earlier this year Liggins applied for anew trial in Scott County district court claiming there was new evidenceshowing he’s not guilty. However, convicted felon Frank Rising, Jr.testified that Liggins told him he killed Jennifer while the two shared ajail cell. A Scott County Judge reviewed the case and ruled Liggins failedto prove his claims. His request for a third trial is denied.
