Oakwood to host its last John Deere Classic

It started out as the Quad Cities Classic and now the John Deere Classic PGATour event gets ready for its final run next month at the Oakwood CountryClub. Next year the Classic will move to the new Tournament Players Club atDeere Run and tournament director Kim Houghman as excited as they are aboutthe new venue there are some mixed feelings leaving Oakwood.The top players on the PGA tour are not expected to be part of the fielduntil next year’s move but Houghman says many of the current stars may makea last minute decision.Houghman is hoping a move to the other side of the British Open will helpattract more top players.Houghman says they are trying to get all the former winners to return forthe last run at Oakwood. That list includes Payne Stewart, who Sunday wonhis second U-S Open.Houghman says in the next month, he anticipates only one of the top-tenmoney winners of this year to take part in the tournament.
