Funeral home director must be monitored

A northeast Iowa funeral home operator can stay in business — but hisactivities must be supervised. Manchester funeral home operator Ted Shelley has been put on probation forone year by the Iowa Board of Mortuary Science Examiners. The board’saction comes after a 1998 lawsuit filed by Victor and Lila Schenke ofManchester. A Deleware County jury found Shelley guilty of indecentexposure and abuse of access during the time the elderly couple rented anapartment from Shelley. The couple was awarded 300-thousand dollars.Under terms of a negotiated settlement with state regulators, Shelley maystay in business but must be supervised by a licensed funeral director.
