Conservation director disputs claims about Three Mile Lake

The director of the Union County Conservation board is questioning a reportthat says Three Mile Lake’s swimming area is cloudier than normal standards.John Tapkan says he finds the report in the Des Moines Register hard tobelieve.Tapkan says the man-made lake was designed to keep out silt and otherpollutants that cause the cloudiness.The lake is less than five years old. Tapkan says he has visited otherlakes where the water is not as clear as Three Mile Lake. He says they lakeshave never been tested.
