Boswell wants V-A chief to quit

July 5, 1999 By admin

Congressman Leonard Boswell is calling for the ouster of the U.S. Secretary for Veterans’ Affairs. Boswell called Secretary Togo West Friday afternoon and asked him to resign. Boswell says the Secretary is not dealing with the uncertainty, worry and concern of America’s military veterans. Boswell called White House officials yesterday, too, to call for more funding for Veterans’ Hospitals — and he called for West’s head, too. Boswell represents Iowa’s third congressional district which includes the Veterans’ Hospital in Knoxville and the Veterans’ Home in Marshalltown. A recent memo leaked to the media indicated V-A officials are pushing hospital managers in Des Moines and Knoxville to cut the number of jobs, services and patients in those facilities.
