Iowa’s top lawyer warns psychic advice may come with a very high price. Bob Brammer (BRAM-ER), a spokesman for the attorney general, says his office has heard many complaints from psychic hotline callers AFTER they receive their phone bill. Brammer says there are many ways a “free” call quickly turns into a “costly” call. Brammer says advertisements often say its an 800 number, but before callers can get a reading they must call an expensive 900 number. Also, callers are sometimes convinced to sign up for a monthly service with a steep charge. He says the best thing for you to do is simply not make the call. The Attorney General’s office advises everyone to carefully study phone bills looking for unauthorized charges. If you have a complaint about questionable telephone charges, call the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division at 515-281-5926.
