Iowa pilots land in hall of fame

Three Iowa pilots will be inducted into the Iowa Aviation “Hall of Fame”this weekend in a ceremony at the State Historical Museum in Des Moines.LeAnn Nelson, director of the Greenfield-based Iowa Aviation Museum, saysCharles Gatschet (GATCH-et) — an aerial photographer and “flying reporter”for the Des Moines Register — will be honored.Rear Admiral Harold Miller will also be honored. Nelson says the Newtonnative devoted his entire life to aviation.The final person to be named to the Hall of Fame is Clifford P. Olesonwho promoted aviation in Ottumwa.The navy pilot who commands the “Screaming Eagles” Air Refueling Squadron isthe featured speaker at Saturday’s event. Tickets are 25-dollars.
