It was the most sought-after volunteer job at the U-S Senior Open. KirkTofte (toff-tee) of Urbandale is one of the walking scorers at the Open. Thescorers follow each group and keep track of shots. Tofte says they arerequired to keep a detailed chart of each hole.The run-down from each hole is quickly given to the green side scorer and eventually is given to the course scoreboard operator and network television. Tofte says their score is not official, the official one is kept by theplayers, but after each round they may be asked to try to help clear up adiscrepency.Tofte says being a walking scorer was more physically demanding than hefirst thought.But Tofte says he’s glad he volunteered for the job and thrilled he was assigned it.
