Campaign finance law turns 25

Iowa’s campaign disclosure law turns 25 this year. The executive director ofIowa’s campaign finance disclosure commission, Kay Williams, says the lawcame about in the wake of the Watergate scandal.Williams says the law has served Iowa well.Williams says not all states require public reporting of campaign donations.She says the cost of campaigns has increased dramatically since the law wasenacted as campaigns that once cost hundred of dollars now cost thousandsand the campaign for governor cost millions.Ceremonies celebrating the 25th anniversary of the law will be held Thursdayand Friday at the campaign disclosure board’s offices in Des Moines.
