Bush calls for aid to farmers

The front-runner for the Republican party’s presidential nomination iscalling for big bucks for down-on-their-luck farmers. Texas Governor George W. Bush is making his second campaign trip to ourcorn-belt caucus state, and he began the trip in Waterloo by calling for “atleast” six-billion dollars in emergency federal aid for farmers.Bush says farmers need more open markets. Bush, whose father was once U.S.Ambassador to China, says the Clinton Administration “made a mistake” by notadmitting China to the World Trade Organization.Bush says the U-S-D-A should dispense emergency aid as quickly as possible,as last year, according to Bush, the Ag Department “choked down” on thedisaster aid, delaying its delivery to farmers..
