National Guard holds reunion

More than seven-hundred former members of the Iowa National Guard arereturning to Camp Dodge today for the 14th annual Retiree Day. Guardspokesman Colonel Robert King says the event is bringing in the state’sretired soldiers from all across the nation.Colonel King says events during the day will be accented by a fly-over ofIowa Air Guard F-16 fighter jets and the dedication of a statue. The 11-foottall statue that’s being dedicated is a copy of “The Minuteman.” Theoriginal stands at the bridge near Lexington & Concord, Massachusetts, thesite of the “shot heard ’round the world” that began the Revolutionary War.The statue is being dedicated to honor General Warren Lawson, who recentlyretired as adjutant general of the Iowa National Guard.
