Couple protests urban sprawl

A rural Ankeny couple is sending a message to motorists passing alongInterstate-35. LaVon Griffieon, an artist, lives on a farm along theconcrete corridor and has erected plywood cows with messages that speak outagainst urban sprawl and promote the preservation of farmland.Griffieon hopes the signs counter what she considers a dangerous trend.Griffieon and her husband, Craig, are the sixth generation of his family totill that particular farm.A group known as “One-thousand Friends of Iowa” plans to move the signsaround the state every few months to other farms in areas which are beingsought for home and business developments.
