Northwood factory to close

A second large factory in north-central Iowa is planning to close its doors.Fieldstone Cabinetry in Northwood is eliminating all 175 jobs by year’s end.Samuel Cypert is a vice president at Fieldstone’s parent company, Masco, ofTaylor, Michigan. Cypert explains the motive behind the move.Cypert says the high-end custom cabinets made in Northwood haven’t been aprofitable product in several years. He says Fieldstone workers were giventhe news Tuesday.Fieldstone was founded by three men from Mason City and Clear Lake in 1978.They sold out to Masco in 1986. The Sara Lee plant in New Hampton is alsoclosing, putting 625 people out of work.
