High temperatures are expected to again reach the upper 90s in many Iowatowns today — and power companies are bracing for more peak demands.MidAmerican Energy reports its Iowa customers broke all electricity usagerecords during the stifling heat a few days ago.Jeff Ashcraft, a MidAmerican spokesman in the Davenport office, says theutility hasn’t gone “over the line yet” with respect to being forced into abrownout situation. He says that likely won’t ever happen.MidAmerican has again issued a “peak alert” for today that will likelycontinue through Friday, urging customers to conserve power. Ashcraft saysit can be easily done.He says it can also keep the house cooler if the blinds or drapes are pulledshut, especially on the west side.
