Latham says Lugar may need education on farm crisis

Despite reports of a farm crisis, Indiana Senator Richard Lugar is quoted assaying he’s seen estimates that the average farmer’s income will not be muchlower than last year’s income. Iowa Congressman Tom Latham says Lugar mayneed to have someone talk to him about the farm situation.Latham says farmers ARE suffering and need an emergency bailout.Latham says there WILL be assistance this fall to help producers survive thedownturn. Iowa Senator Tom Harkin also disagrees with Lugar’s call to debatean emergency farm bailout package later, rather than sooner.Harkin is pushing a 9-point-9 billion dollar farm assistance package.
