Baseball champions crowned

The state high school baseball tournament wrapped up over the weekend inMarshalltown and Carroll. In Marshalltown, tenth ranked West Des MoinesDowling won the class 4a title with a 6-1 victory over Ankeny. The future isalso bright for Dowling as Eddie Mauro’s team had ten sophomores on theroster.Mauro says his team continued to make progress throughout the year.In class 2A, Tony Leick (like) limited top ranked Algona Garrigan to a pairof hits as 6th ranked Council Bluffs St. Albert claimed a 2-0 victory. St.Albert coach Ken Schrieber (shry-ber) says Leick’s improvement on the moundwas a big part of their championship run.The Class 1A and 3A titles were decided in Carroll. Lemars Gehlen beatsoutheast Warren 6-2 for the 1A championship. Davenport Assumption beatSpencer 9-2 for The 3A title.
