Governor Vilsack again asks for federal farm help

Governor Vilsack is urging federal policymakers to quickly approve afinancial aid package for farmers. Vilsack has sent letters to PresidentClinton and Congressional leaders, asking them to take action beforeCongress leaves Washington, D.C. August 7th for a month’s recess.In his letter, Vilsack said the nation shouldn’t let farmers down.Vilsack, reading from the letter, said farmers have done everything they’vebeen asked to do.Vilsack wants to give Iowans a chance to make their views known to Congress,the President and the presidential candidates. To that end, Vilsack isencouraging Iowa commodity groups to collect written comments from Iowans whoattend the Iowa State Fair.Vilsack says it’s a “positive sign” that the U.S. Senate is scheduled todebate the subject of cash aid to farmers this week.
