Rural Iowans discuss issues

Rural Iowans are meeting in Marshalltown today for the second annual RuralCongress. The three-day meeting is designed as a way for people in ruralcommunities to meet, discuss issues that’re important to them, and find waysto bring about changes to improve their lives.Frank Spillers is executive director of Positively Iowa, which is sponsoringthe Rural Congress. Spillers says speakers include Governor Vilsack, Iowa AgSecretary Patty Judge, Iowa House Speaker Brent Siegrist, Iowa SenateRepublican Leader Stuart Iverson and other top government officials.While the name is Rural Congress, Spillers says the gathering does notexclude people in Iowa towns & cities.Spillers says issues that’re being discussed include: workforce enhancement& quality jobs, technology & infrastructure development, land use, inboundmigration & population retention.
