The Midwest is seeing its largest price increase in several years for allsorts of goods, according to the monthly survey of purchasing managers byCreighton University. Economics professor Dr. Ernie Goss says Iowa standsout among the nine states in the survey.In the past six months, Dr. Goss says Iowa’s manufacturing industry has beenthe strongest in the region and among the strongest in the nation. He saysthe agricultural sector of the state is improving, slightly.Goss says more Iowa commodities are being sold out of state and out of thecountry, helping boost the sagging ag industry.While Goss says there is an unturn in “inflationary pressure,” he says theFederal Reserve could react to that when the board meets this month byraising interest rates.
