Cedar Rapids family wins Emmy nomination

This September, the Emmy could go to a Cedar Rapids native. Kathy Eldon andher daughter, Amy, are nominated for the prestigious award in the “BestNon-fictional Special” category for their documentary “Dying to Tell theStory.” Kathy says her daughter came up with the idea, however, her son isthe inspiration behind the story.Dan Eldon died while working working as a photographer for Reutersin Somolia. In 1993, the U-N bombed a house where it was believed a warlordwas staying. After promises of safety, some journalists left the theirhotel to cover the story. Kathy was born in Cedar Rapids and lived there until she was twenty-three. She has lived in various parts of the world including Europe and Africa.Eldon says she’s so proud of her “Iowa roots” that she sent her kids hereyearly.Eldon says the honor of being nominated is good enough for her.The mother/daughter team has just completed another documentary about thechildren of Columbia who have been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize. “Dying to Tell the Story” can be seen August 29th at 8 p-m on C-N-N as a partof the “Prospectives” series.
