Latham says no farm bill before break

August 5, 1999 By admin

While the U-S Senate passed a seven-and-a-half BILLION dollar emergency farmpackage yesterday, don’t expect a similar move out of the House. IowaCongressman Tom Latham says the House will NOT be able to pass its versionof the farm bailout before adjournment Saturday for summer break. *Though Iowa Congressman Leonard Boswell is lobbying the House Speaker todelay adjournment until a farm bill is passed, Latham says there’ll be NOpostponing the off-time. Still, Latham says the committee work on theemergency farm relief package should be done this week.Latham has another reason to favor a fast adjournment: he and several otherCongressmen leave for Kosovo on Saturday. The Alexander republican is takinga nine-day trip to the Pristina area to study embassy and state departmentsecurity.
