UNI hires alum to become AD

The University of Northern Iowa made it official today as Rick Hartzell wasintroduced as the school’s new athletic director. Hartzell is a U-N-Igraduate and says he is happy to be back.The Klemme native had been the director of athletics at Bucknell since 1988.Hartzell plans on being at U-N-I for a long time.There has been a great deal of talk about the need for a new basketballarena. Hartzell says if it helps the program he will support the effort.U-N-I vice presdent for administration and finance John Connor directed thesearch. He says there were a couple of things that made Hartzell stand out.Connor says the final choice was his, not the selection committee’s.Hartzell was a finalist for the job seven years ago, but Connor says he muchbetter prepared this time around.
