Hawkeye Community College president fired

The president of Hawkeye Community College was fired last night in a vote ofthe Board of Trustees in Waterloo. Dr. Bill Hierstein wasterminated after a battle with the board over the parameters of his job.Board attorney Bob Braun (brawn) explained the legal procedures to thetrustees, saying Hierstein can appeal.The board voted 6-2 in favor of termination, with one abstention. Hierstein was suspended in July. As reasons, the board accused him of a lackof leadership and a lack of communication. Reports say the disagreementsbetween Hierstein and the board stem from his firing of a woman who wasmarried to a friend and co-worker of a board member.
