August 17, 1999 By admin

Iowa quarterbacks coach Chuck Long says whoever performs the best inpre-season workouts will be the Hawkeyes starting signal caller. RandyReiners, Kyle McCann and Scott Mullen all spent time last season as thestarting quarterback and Long says all three know the offense; it is just amatter of who steps forward.Reiners is suspended for the first game but could earn the starting job forthe Iowa State contest. Long says he would prefer to have a starter namedand go with him and not see the merry-go-round of starters like last season.Long says while the change in head coaches makes this a transition year, there has not been a total break from the past under Kirk Ferentz.Iowa opens the season September fourth at home against Nebraska.
