The Food Bank of Iowa has new digs — about twice the size of its previouswarehouse. The organization provides free food to soup kitchens and otherrelief agencies in 42 of Iowa’s 99 counties. Food Bank of Iowa executivedirector Karen Ford says their old facility in Des Moines was closed down bythe Department of Transportation.The Food Bank’s old warehouse was 27-thousand square feet. The new place isan old beer warehouse — with 53-thousand square feet of storage space.The Food Bank is re-building a freezer and plans to move its frozen foodsupplies from a temporary site as soon as that’s complete.
