September 2, 1999 By admin

While alternative uses for Iowa-grown soybeans range from printer’s ink tocrayons, a bubbly new product is brewing in Des Moines. It’s soy beer andit’s coming to a brewery near you. Chris Klocke (CLUCK-ee), general managerof the Court Avenue Brewing Company, says the beer is made with thetraditional barley, malt, hops and genetically-altered soybeans. He hopes tocreate a new market for the Iowa-brewed suds. This is the first batch ofRising Sun Soy Beer and Klocke doesn’t expect the first 200 gallons to lastlong.
